Dear Friends and Family,

I am asking for your help. As you all know, that is very hard for me to do. I am the one that everyone goes to for help, so it is humbling to be on the opposite end of the spectrum. The past two years have been the most interesting and emotional time of my life, to say the least.

Getting diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, and putting this disease in full remission, has taught me to put my priorities in order. I have realized how your life can change in the blink of an eye; that I am not invincible, and that maybe I have not been prioritizing what is most important in life: family and friends. Everyone always says that time flies and if you do not stop and look around, your life will pass you by. I believe that statement is true for all of us, and it is our turn to stop, look around, and put our priorities in check. I got a wake-up call first-hand; a lesson I will never forget.

We all have a lot to be grateful for. Even in a down economy, we are forging ahead and creating a new tomorrow. In this new tomorrow, I ask that we take the time to give back. I ask that we do our part to make a difference. I know we all think, "What can one person really do?" "Can we actually make a difference?" I rebut this by stating, do not try to do this by yourself, rather, let’s do it together.

I have always flourished in adversity, in being told that you cannot do or accomplish something. Let’s beat the odds and stand out amongst the crowd. Let’s network with everyone we know and utilize strength in numbers to raise awareness and funds for a great cause. Word of mouth spreads fast, and even a small donation can make a huge impact. Of all funds raised, 100% go to developing a cure for many different types of blood cancer and provide better patient services and education. With technologies such as email and internet, and social medias such as Facebook , LinkedIn, and Twitter, it is very easy for us all to spread the word. It is easy for each of us to truly make a difference. Let’s utilize the networking we do on a daily basis to raise awareness and funds for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I am asking for your help!

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society has nominated me for their Man of the Year program, a nomination for which I feel honored and privilege to be considered. The Man and Women of the Year program is based on individuals or teams that get involved in raising donations for blood cancer awareness and cures. The program takes place over a ten-week period, March 11th through May 14th, and is being held in 60 major cities nationwide.

The goal I have set for our team is to raise over $150,000 for this worthy cause. We plan on achieving this through your support and by you helping us spread the word. Attached you will find information on blood cancers and The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. In addition, you will discover a list of all of the events we will be hosting, and each of the different ways you or someone you know can generously make a tax-deductible donation.

We have tried to be creative with our fund raising efforts. We have planned events including a raffle where you could win twin Pontiac Solstice convertibles – as inspired by my one year old twin boys, Landry and Larkin, fraternal twins. Both cars are similar, yet different. We are also planning events ranging from A Night of Green Elegance Cocktail Party, Rolling in the Green Casino Night, Taking to the Green Golf Outing, and our grand finale, Dreaming in Green Classic Car Show. There will also be radio events put on by our friends at CBS Radio, and pin ups/ icons sold at each store to help our cause. If you are not able to attend any of these events, you can also help our team reach its goals by donating online at http://mi.mwoy.llsevent.org/rlafontaine. All donations must be received by May 14th.

This is a cause that has become dear to my heart; never in a million years did I ever think I would be writing this letter stating I am a cancer survivor. I always thought, this could never happen to me. When I was diagnosed, I had to look online to understand what Lymphoma truly was. I lived in this bubble, where I heard about the different kind of cancers out there, but never stopped to really understand what they all were. I said each year, that this is the year I will give back; this is the year I will take the time to make a difference. Well, this is the year, and it only took getting Hodgkin’s Lymphoma to convince me. You can say bullheaded I know…. But please help me become less bullheaded, by making a difference and helping me far surpass our goal.

Please forward this link to anyone you know that would be interested in giving back. You can also go to our website at www.TheFamilyDeal.com to get further information about upcoming events and RSVP to one or all of our upcoming events. I am a true believer that you cannot control the deck of cards you are dealt, but you can control what you do with those cards. Thank you for your time in reading this letter and thank you in advance for your support, together we can make an impact.
